Opening up my world to you: Baltic Roots, Mycelium, Regeneration, & Animism
When my dear friend Gabriela Müller
(deeply recommend subscribing to her beautiful writing) invited me to create an artist's portrait for Zeevonk, an experimental platform for music, visual arts, and food. I got super excited. We filmed in my studio lab in the south of Berlin (TOP Lab), so you’ll be able to see the dungeon I predominantly work in. We also filmed in my own home and the surrounding areas. We spoke about my project Refusal to Heal, mycelium, animism, and how we can shift extractive relationships with the more-than-human. I’m nervous and excited to share this with you. Enjoy!
Gabriela and Robbin are producers of the artist series and co-founders of Zeevonk.
Zeevonk is a Berlin-based, experimental platform for music, visual arts and food. They organise events and curate podcast series with a focus on electronic music and sustainability, in a constant exploration of new topics and possibilities.
With special care for closeness and warmth, they wish to uphold a shared platform that holds our values closely, where they can experiment, challenge artists they admire and bring collective ideas to life, all the while raising awareness on the topics that matter most to them.
Zeevonk, literally translates to sea sparkle, is the Dutch word for Noctiluca, a bioluminescent phytoplankton that glows on the surface of the sea, when exposed to movement.
Video, camera, & editing by multimedia artist Diego Ospina Melo who is truly a masterful creator. Deep gratitude for his craft.
