“So it is with our hands that write, and write, and just can’t stop writing. Even if we lose our initial hands, the silence alchemizes our why into a much deeper commitment. Embrace the silence, embrace the mirrorlessness.”
Profoundly grateful to have read this essay. My own blocks and attachments are being shown, in kind yet fiercely honest reflection. Something about how I feel now after reading is making me eager to reassess my approach to the haunting cursor on a screen, waiting for my voice to shape itself.
Loved this reflection so much. Thank you for putting it so eloquently and lovingly real. Embracing the silence and tending to my own vulnerability with grace and curiosity. Xx
Just what I needed today, thank you Rūta. Reminding me I need to sit with the silence until I find that faint echo of self again. Appreciated every word of this, and what a lovely quote from David Whyte.
When I saw this on Linkedin Ruta, my immediate thought was I hope this on Substack! Great to find you here. I love these David Whyte quotes - so much wisdom and in my journey over the past year trying to understand what I want to write and share on this platform I have encountered that silence often. Its scary and I love thinking that this is a part of the story.
"The terror of silence is much more delicious" - I love it! ♡
In the digital era, where our writings don't come out as spoken words into an audience that speaks back to us with their eyes, it's hard to realise that silence does not mean "not being heard". In that silence, the words we share still reverberate somewhere, often times faraway, but deep.
"It may be that the silence is there so that you can hear exactly what you have asked for, and hear it more clearly so that you can get it right. "
So so true, reverberations of the internet work in strange ways. The time aspect disappears. Really great distinction between silence and not being heard - they are not the same.
Love it. Extraordinary words and heartfelt reminder, thank you 💜💜💜 I’ve been writing in this silence for years now, and it’ll probably take a few more to complete the book I can’t not write .
